How do you promote yourself better? | Successful Life Podcast

Unsure of how to market your skills and services? Check out this podcast episode for tips on promoting yourself effectively!

In a previous episode, we talked about following up. Today, I want us to talk about following through. At some point, I know following up and following through sound the same, but there is a difference. Following through means, you push forward with what you had said you would do.

We have seen companies losing a lot of money just because the leaders couldn't follow through with what they should be doing, and it trickles down to the people below them. The juniors feel it is okay to overlook things because nobody will ask them anyway. I have a client who lost $61,000. It gave him a wake-up call and a reminder that he needed to get on top of things.

As an entrepreneur, you need to keep a keen eye on your invoices, accounts receivables and all the financial aspects of your business. If you feel like you are fighting a losing battle, you can always reach out to me, and I will help you identify the cracks and how to fix them.

Do you feel like your business needs different pairs of eyes to help you identify the money problems you could be going through? Feel free to get in touch with me to book a meeting. I assure you that our first meeting will be free.

Key Talking Points of the Episode:

[00:12] What's the difference between follow-through and follow-up?

[02:50] How one of my clients lost $61,000

[04:29] The essence of following through and how it impacts your business

Magical Quotes from the Episode:

"You could have a million great ideas. But if you don't execute on those ideas, there's absolutely pointless."

"A lot of people make massive mistakes, because of the inability to follow through."

"You can't expect everybody to do everything exactly the way you would have it done. Because it's not reasonable. You're setting people up for failure if that's what you expect."

"When you get comfortable, you get complacent, you get complacent things slip through the cracks, and you miss things."

You're losing out on 25% of your potential business by not following up

3 Reasons why you Need to Follow up with your Leads

How often do you follow up with your leads?

Following up is not an option if you want to grow your business as a contractor. You have to ensure that you follow up on your leads on time. Once you have a lead, don’t wait for so long before you call them because if you delay, someone else will grab the business.

I know you must think, “what if I call a lead and find out someone else called before me?” Get it from me; you still need to follow up. There could be a chance that the person didn’t show up for the job, and you end up getting the chance.

Once you have the job, go the extra mile. Make sure your client feel you are the one-stop shop for their solutions. For instance, tell them you can connect them with one if they need a solar person. With that, the client will never call anyone else, and you will be building relationships with other contractors.

Listen to this episode to learn more about following up with your leads.

Key Talking Points of the Episode:

[00:57] As a contractor, you need to follow up

[03:14] Call your leads on time: Even if someone else calls the client before you, follow up

[05:26] Make sure your customer calls nobody else

Magical Quotes from the Episode:

“As a contractor, it is super important for you to uncover all the problems while you’re there, so you can fix them.”

“Time is the only thing that’s on your side. If you don’t call that lead back immediately, you’re only going to have a chance to follow up.”

“If you’re the guy with all the contacts, they can call you for anything including what you did for them.”

Understanding the Pros and Cons of Delegating Responsibilities | Successful Life Podcast

As an entrepreneur, you can do anything, but you cannot do everything. We wear many hats in our businesses, and I know sometimes delegating some of your tasks to others is difficult. We tend to hold onto every task in our business and end up with burnout.

When it comes to delegation, you need to watch out for two things; you don’t want to over delegate, and you end up getting your foot off the gas pedal. Also, you want to under delegate, and end up with burnout. I have experienced both sides. I can comfortably say that delegation requires accountability if you want to win at it. It would be best if you were accountable to someone, and the person you are delegating to needs to be accountable to you.

Many business owners fail when it comes to delegation because their teams consist of people who are not ready to help them win. As you build your company culture, you need to make sure it will help you succeed. Also, when delegating, always ensure you delegate to someone better than you.

In this episode, we’ll be looking at the pros and cons of delegating responsibilities. I hope this episode will help you become better at delegating.

Key Talking Points of the Episode:

[03:35] What holds people back from delegating

[04:57] What happens when you delegate and what happens when you don’t?

Magical Quotes from the Episode:

“Do stuff that you find challenging. Do stuff that scare you because I’ll tell you, it will make you a stronger person.”

“Fear is one of those things that will just hold you back.”

“If you’ve built a culture around your team, not wanting you to win, you have a leadership problem.”

“You can’t delegate tasks to people that are not accountable to follow through with them.”

Social Media for Contractors | Successful Life Podcast

Social Media for Contractors

There is a big misconception in the contractors’ industry that social media wastes time. We are past the day and age when people used social media to stalk their exes and high school classmates. Social media is a powerful marketing tool for businesses across all industries.

If you are a contractor and you are not on social media, you are missing out on some opportunities. You are not presenting yourself in front of your target audience. How should they know about your business?

As a contractors’ coach, I highly recommend using social media to tell the world about your business. It is important to note that not all social media platforms will work for you. Choosing channels that sit well with you and where your target audience hangs out would be best.

Once you have your social accounts in place, content creation is the next step. For example, if you are a plumber, go ahead and post videos of yourself doing your job. Post at least thrice a day, and make sure you update your stories now and then. I know some of you cannot stand the camera for various reasons. My advice is you keep doing it. In no time, all the fear will go away. If you need inspiration, look at what my friend Roger is doing on YouTube.

Listen to this episode to hear more.

Key Talking Points of the Episode:

[04:59] Why you need to be on social media

[06:20] You need to do videos

Magical Quotes from the Episode:

“It doesn’t make sense to be friends with all your high school friends if you’re not doing business with them.”

“If you want to do better with your social media, also engage with your followers.”

Audiogram:

“Post three times a day. Do a story every few hours, every five to six hours. Make sure your old stories are gone. Make sure you’re always having new stories, have some funny stuff in them, make sure they’re engaging, and ask questions.” [11:32]
