Parenting a pre-teen and the Challenges of being a dad

Parenting a pre-teen and the Challenges of being a dad

Imagine receiving a call from the hospital at 5 am asking you to immediately take your child to the hospital. You try explaining to them that the child is sleeping, but they insist you have to go. It happened to me when my daughter was diagnosed with diabetes.

It was a difficult moment for all of us since her life changed. She had to be on insulin which made her gain some weight.  My daughter is a pre-teen, and you can only imagine what the weight gain did to her. My wife and I had to encourage her a lot. Fortunately, she is such a positive kid.

In this episode, I want to share the struggles I have gone through being a dad to my daughter, how I get along with my family and an encouragement to all the dads out there.

Listen in and learn.

Four Things you'll Learn from this Episode

  • When you are parenting a pre-teen or a teen, you have to be extremely careful because they are very vulnerable.
  • If you want something, you need to go for it. You can't keep wishing that you have it and doing nothing about it. For instance, if you feel you have gained some weight that needs to go, you have to work on that; otherwise, it won't go.
  • Being a parent is such a huge blessing that you cannot afford to take it for granted. Many people would love to have kids, but they don't.
  • If you are a businessperson, your goal should always be to become better. For instance, if you made X amount of money last year, you should do better than X this year.

Noteworthy Moments:

[01:19] How I became a dad

[06:10] Getting my daughter's diabetic diagnosis

[17:15] What does it mean to be a good father?

Quotes

"When you're entering into a situation to have an arrangement with a dude or a young lady, you got to think about how that's going to affect your kids."

"If you're with somebody that is not important to you, you're between a rock and a hard place."

"You have to bust your ass if you're going to be super successful."

"There's a lot of stuff about owning a business that you're not ever going to know until you do it and fail."

"It's important to have somebody in your life that you can count on, and it's equally vital to feel like somebody counts on you."

Desperate To Close Deals? Here’s What You Need To Know

Sales is no longer just about persuasion. To be a successful salesperson today, you need to empathize with the person you’re selling to. You need to have the ability to understand and share the feelings of the other person. Salespeople who have empathy can connect with others on a personal level, making it easier to establish trust, inspire action, and close deals.

In today’s episode, I take you through what it feels and how it should instead feel as a customer confronted by a sales professional. I also talk to you about why you need to respect any profession for the service and value they provide for you (and never look down upon them!), how to view your mistakes as learning opportunities, how to serve your customers better through your skills, what makes a good salesperson, and why empathy is important in any profession.

You’ll also hear me narrate my up-and-down journey through life — the countless mistakes I made and what they taught me, how I got to a place I wouldn’t have imagined sometime back, and how grabbing an opportunity (a Facebook Live) had me leap closer to my dream life and career.

Do you go hard on yourself for not closing enough deals? Surely, this episode is for you.

4 Things You’ll Learn From This Episode

  • ●  Why we need to view people’s professions not just for the money they make out of it but for the VALUE they provide to us

  • ●  As a salesperson, your job is to LEAD your customer to the answer, solve their problem, and not just MAKE SALES.

  • ●  The revenue you generate for others is the answer to anyone questioning your position or ability.

  • ●  If you want to succeed in sales, you’d want to understand your customer and genuinely help them.

    Noteworthy Moments

[0:25] Frustration with labeling people as just a salesperson or just a plumber or the like
[2:21] Doing the hero’s job as a salesperson
[6:11] The mistakes I made in my life and how they transformed me as a human being

[10:11] How a Facebook Live changed my life altogether [11:46] If you’re struggling in the trades, you need to know this

Quotes

“Sometimes we make bad decisions. There are times in our lives where we make great decisions in a row.”

“Go see me on more stages, because that's where I really want to be, I really want to be on stage helping people. And that's where I'm headed.”

“If you can figure out how they're feeling, what they're feeling, what they're thinking and get that stuff out on the table, you're gonna make them feel better, you're gonna feel better, you're gonna close more deals. I guarantee it. So stop, always being closed — that's old. Get that shit out of your head. It's not the way business works anymore.”

5 Key takeaways

  1. When you are selling a high ticket product or service that you cannot imagine buying for yourself, it is hard to put yourself in the customer’s shoes and leverage that empathy to refine your sales technique. A good way to overcome this is to understand where every dollar goes. When you give a job to every dollar, you understand why you cannot offer discounts on your product. Rather than a discount, you can offer financing options.

Rookie Public Speaking Mistakes I Made My 3rd Time on Stage

Summary

Corey shares lessons learnt from his recent experience speaking at Podfest while sprinkling in a few negotiation tactics along the way. Speaking at Podfest was only his third time speaking on stage as a presenter.

Tune in to unlock a negotiation tactic that works every single time AND to learn why getting a ‘no’ while negotiating is sometimes better than getting a ‘yes’.

[09:34] A negotiation tactic that works 100% of the time in hotels[a].

3 Key takeaways

  • When speaking in front of people, don’t forget to put out your credentials and make it easy for people to find you online. Clearly state your usernames on popular online platforms. This will help build your network and make the most of your speaking engagement.

  • A fail-proof negotiation tactic: before you ask for something small (like early check in in a hotel) start your conversation with the relevant staff member with “I am about to make your day ridiculously difficult”.

  • You don’t always have to get a ‘yes’ in a negotiation. In fact, you can be better off getting a ‘no’. Surprised? Here is an example: “would it be a ridiculous idea to ask you to (insert small ask or no brainer like: to help you grow your revenue)”.

Their coaches are industry experts who know the nuances of the game and have experienced them all. He is also the Founder and CEO at Matrix Marketing Firm, a company that helps service area businesses grow their practice by acquiring high-paying calls every month.

Zach has been into sales since he was in middle school. He was part of Ryan Stewman's (Founder of Break Free Academy) largest pro sales group on Facebook called Sales Talk With Sales Pros. Zach's dad was a client with their Apex program.

While on a call with Danny Galvez (Specialist at Break Free Academy), Zach's dad introduced him to Danny. Learning how Zach was into sales and marketing, Danny offered him an opportunity to intern with them. Zach soon joined their sister networks, Phone Sites and Apex and worked up to become the top sales producer at Break Free Academy in a short period. He learns and works alongside top sales professionals of our time today.

We also discuss the Apex program at Break Free Academy. The program helps people focus on their teams, scale their systems, processes, and hiring methods by providing them with the skills and expertise they need. Zach explains that the most significant number of people in their program are executives (150-160 in number). They also have entrepreneurs and entourage, but they're a lower number in comparison. The program essentially brings in 7-8-9 figure income persons and helps optimize their business further by training and coaching.
